MAQUIBRIGHT® - Clinically Proven Eye Hydration & Cellular Protection

A standardized Maqui extract rich in delphinidins — the world’s most powerful antioxidant molecules — clinically validated to support tear fluid balance and ocular comfort.

NATURAL ORIGIN. SCIENTIFIC PRECISION.

Science Meets Ocular Wellness

MaquiBright® is a patented standardized extract obtained from the wild Maqui Berry (Aristotelia chilensis), native to the forests of Patagonia.

It contains ≥ 25 % delphinidins, rare anthocyanins that protect ocular cells from oxidative stress caused by UV radiation, pollution, and prolonged screen exposure.

Through over a decade of research, MNL Group developed MaquiBright® to address a modern health challenge: chronic eye dryness and digital fatigue.

LACRIMALGLANDS

Mechanisms of action

Tear Fluid Production

Stimulates lacrimal gland secretion, improving eye moisture and comfort.

Double-blind study, Takara Clinic, Japan – +25 % tear fluid vs placebo after 4 weeks.

Oxidative Stress Protection

Neutralizes free radicals and lipid peroxidation in ocular and dermal tissues.

In vitro study – delphinidins protect corneal cells under oxidative conditions.

LACRIMALGLANDS-maqui

Clinical Validation

Ocular Health – Dry Eye Relief

  • 25 % increase in tear fluid production (60 mg/day, 4 weeks).
  • ~75 % reduction in dry-eye symptom severity after 60 days.
  • Improved oxidative protection of lacrimal gland cells via delphinidin D3G5G bioavailability.
All trials conducted under double-blind, placebo-controlled conditions in Japan, Italy, and Brazil (Takara Clinic, J. Am. Coll. Nutr., Clin. Cosmet. Investig. Dermatol.).

Frequently Asked Questions about MaquiBright®

EYE-SCREEN
  • MaquiBright® is a patented, standardized Maqui Berry (Aristotelia chilensis) extract developed by MNL Group for eye health applications, standardized to a minimum of 35% total anthocyanins and 25% delphinidins. Unlike eye health supplements that lubricate the ocular surface externally, MaquiBright® works from within: its key delphinidin glycoside, D3G5G, has been shown to penetrate lacrimal gland cells, neutralize oxidative stress, and help restore their natural capacity to produce tear fluid. D3G5G is absorbed by lacrimal gland tissue at markedly higher rates than other Maqui anthocyanins, which is the mechanism behind its effect on tear secretion.
  • MaquiBright® increased tear fluid production by 25% versus placebo after 4 weeks at a dose of 60 mg per day, in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial conducted at the Takara Clinic in Tokyo (2017). The trial involved 74 participants aged 30 to 60 who experienced eye dryness and spent at least 4 hours daily on screens. The increase in lacrimal fluid production measured by Schirmer's test was statistically significant (p = 0.005), and participants also reported meaningful reductions in eye fatigue and dry eye discomfort. A separate pilot study found that 60 mg per day reduced dry eye symptom severity to approximately one-quarter of baseline levels after 60 days. No adverse events were reported in either study. This makes MaquiBright® one of the few natural eye health ingredients supported by a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with objective tear fluid measurement.

All studies are published in peer-reviewed journals and available at mnl-group.com/en/clinical-studies.

  • MaquiBright® and omega-3 fatty acids address different aspects of dry eye, and they work through different mechanisms. Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) are associated with anti-inflammatory effects that may support the lipid layer of the tear film. MaquiBright® acts on the aqueous component of tear production — the lacrimal gland cells that generate tear fluid volume — by reducing oxidative stress within those cells and helping restore their secretory function. MaquiBright® is supported by a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial that measured tear fluid production directly via Schirmer's test, a specific and objective endpoint for aqueous-deficient dry eye. Because the two ingredients target different layers of the same problem, some formulations combine both.

  • MaquiBright® supports eye comfort by addressing oxidative stress in the lacrimal glands, the structures responsible for producing tear fluid. Chronic oxidative stress can impair lacrimal gland function, particularly in people who spend extended time in front of screens, in air-conditioned environments, or who wear contact lenses. MaquiBright® works through two complementary mechanisms: it helps restore tear fluid production by neutralizing oxidative stress in lacrimal gland cells, and it provides antioxidant protection to ocular tissues more broadly. This approach supports the eye's own natural moisture-generating capacity rather than replacing it artificially.

  • The clinically studied dose of MaquiBright® is 60 mg per day, taken as a single daily capsule. This is the dose at which the randomized controlled trial showed a statistically significant 25% increase in tear fluid production and reduced dry eye symptoms over 4 weeks. A lower dose of 30 mg per day was tested in a separate pilot study and did not produce the same measurable effect, indicating that 60 mg represents the clinically meaningful threshold. As MaquiBright® is a B2B ingredient, final product dosage recommendations are determined by the formulating brand in accordance with applicable regulations in their market.

  • MaquiBright® is clinically relevant for digital eye strain because its pivotal trial was conducted specifically with heavy screen users — participants who spent at least 4 hours per day on visual display terminals and reported both eye dryness and eye fatigue. This is uncommon among natural eye health ingredients, which are more often studied in clinically diagnosed dry eye populations. The trial showed improvements in objective tear fluid production as well as subjective measures of eye fatigue and bothersome ocular symptoms, making MaquiBright® a relevant ingredient for supplement formulations targeting digital lifestyle consumers.

  • MaquiBright® is used by supplement brands across North America, Europe, and Asia. If you are a consumer looking for eye health products formulated with MaquiBright®, you can find an updated list of available brands and products at mnl-group.com/en/find-products.

  • MaquiBright® is available as a B2B ingredient in powder form, suitable for capsules, tablets, sachets, and functional beverages. To request technical documentation, samples, or commercial information, contact our team at mnl-group.com/contact.
